Grade l or mild ligament tear: Injury to the glenoid labrum (fibrocartilaginous rim attached around the margin of the glenoid cavity). A stretching or tearing of ligament occurs when joints are moved beyond their normal range of motion and the collagen fibers within the ligament are pulled apart.
When ligaments are stretched or strained beyond normal capacity, they can tear.
Grade 2 medial ligament tear. Grade i tears refer to a slightly or mildly overstretched lcl and does not usually affect knee stability. Grade 3 (severe) a complete tear of the ligament resulting in severe pain, extensive bleeding, and swelling. Athletes who do a lot of running, jumping and quickly switch directions are more likely to grade 3:
